❤️❤️❤️ Some Thoughts for Valentine’s Day… ❤️❤️❤️
Remember to give yourself the advice that you would give to a child or teenager about today…
Don’t let the world, or the media, or culture, or advertising, or other people, or whatever other influence you can think of set your agenda for today. Don’t let them set your expectations of what should happen today, or what you need to give or get today, or how you need to spend your money or time, or where you need to go, or who you need to be with.
Today is another day to be you, to set your own priorities and agenda based on your values. So if you don’t have all of the things that other influencers tell you that you should have today — a significant other, an expensive gift, a fancy meal at a restaurant, a card, a bouquet of flowers, chocolates — you can focus on what you do have, and what’s important to you.
Who are the people in your life who matter to you? Send them a quick note, or call them. It doesn’t have to be a “valentine.” Contact a friend (or friends) and schedule time together doing the things that you enjoy, even if that’s sitting in front of a TV watching a movie, or gathered around a table eating chips and playing a game. Don’t be afraid to save your money for (or spend your money on) things that matter to you, that are of significance, regardless of what value others place on those things.
If you can’t think of anyone to contact, go out and be kind to someone. I guarantee you’re not the only one who’s feeling alone today. Smile at someone in the store. Say hello. Let someone go before you in line. Pay for the coffee for the person in line behind you. You never know how a small act will brighten someone’s day. You may even make a new friend.
And if you’re fortunate enough to have all of the things that others say you should have for Valentine’s Day, and it ends up being a magical day for you, then enjoy it and count your blessings.
Above all, remember that God loves you. You are never alone, even if there is no other person to spend your day with. He created you, He loves you, and He understands and hears your frustrations, your challenges, your hopes, and your thankfulness. And His plan for you far exceeds the focus of one day. One of my favorite sayings: “Just because you have a bad day doesn’t mean you have a bad life.”
Peace ✌🏼 and love ❤️
