Thanksgiving Day 2021
Give Thanks
Today is a day set aside to prioritize thankfulness and relationships — hopefully you have loved ones to spend today with, as I do, even though we still miss the presence of someone important. ♥️
But it’s all too easy to connect my level of thankfulness with how I feel, and my current circumstances against how I think things should be going for me in my life.
I “feel” significantly better than I did a year ago, and not merely because of the passage of time. I hear the phrase “Time heals all wounds,” but I disagree with that. Time, on its own, might give me perspective, but it also provides opportunity for bitterness and regret to grow. No, only God can heal our wounds, for “He is near to the brokenhearted, and He saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, one of my bedrock verses this past year). “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
So, regardless of what I currently feel, regardless of my current circumstances, may I be able to focus today on God’s goodness and His eternal blessings to us. May I be able to give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for me (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
