Scenario: In Obsidian, I’m linking from my current note to another note with my vault. That note has an Alias that is not simple to type because’s it in another language — in my Bible study, an example would be the word “Yahweh” and it’s Hebrew letters, יהוה.
I can easily start the link with the double-left brackets, [[
, and typing the word to bring up the option for Yahweh, as identified in the screenshot below.

From this point, I would normally press the Enter
or Return
key to select the linked note, but that auto-completes the link and actually “escapes” it, moving the cursor to the right end, after the link. Then I have to use the arrow keys to go back into the link, press the vertical bar key to enter |
, and then start entering my alias or alternate text.
But today I figured out that if I press the Tab
key to select the linked note — instead of Enter
or Return
— the auto-complete stays within the link, allowing me to press the vertical bar key of |
and easily entering my alias or alternate text.
It’s a relatively small win, but it saves me a couple of keystrokes multiple times per note, which adds up over an entire day and week. Tab for the win! 🎉
